Bug Description

Inkscape 0.48.4 r9939
Windows 7, norwegian, 32 bit.

This looks like a dead ringer of bug Bug #307005 (https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/307005), but occurs on windows too.

This happens when a group with several object is copied between two open Inkscape windows.

Unlike the OS X bug, it does occur occasonally. I have not found a way to recreate the bug that always work.

Some common conditions when the bug occur:
* Large drawing with 3 layers or more.
* Several objects outside page area
* Pasted object is a group (have never experienced this happend with single objects)
* Inkscape drawing has being open for a while. Does not happens when Inkscape has being running for a short moment.
* The inkscape sessions have open two drawings where one of is a further development of the other. Many object in one drawing does also exists in the other.

Possible workaround: Copy something else first, and then try to copy & paste the group.

Did you find steps to reproduce? All my attempts on Windows XP and 7 remained unsuccessful so far...

I should say something about a typical work project, and how my files is normally:

Working files is normally made by dragging an image file icon from windows explorer into the shortcut to inkscape. Then I create the bottom layer , moves the image to bottom layer and lock the layer. Then I creates a new layer where I put all figures into.

Layers setup:
1. Bottom layer. Named short, typically just "BG". Contains one image, linked. Layer is locked.
2. Seckond layer. Contins many text objects, paths and figures.

I just had this happen to me as well in Windows 7 x64 SP1 with 0.48.4. Unfortunately, I can't seem to duplicate it. :(

The only thing that I did when this happened was I used the "jumplist" on the pinned Inkscape icon on my taskbar to open two separate recent files I was working with and needed to copy a part between. Hope this helps.

Just had the same problem with Inkscape 0.91 r13725 on Windows 7 Professional.

Attached the files in question. The problem object has id g28072 in original file.

Update: closing all inkscape windows and re-opening the two files in question resolved the problem: objects were pasted as objects, not as bitmap.
When the problem first occurred I had about 6 or 7 Inkscape windows open, if that should matter.

Same problem occured when copying objects from one instance to another ( 0.91 r 13725 ) in win7.

At once text element copied as separate vectorized letters, but usually any element is copied as low quality bitmap. Attached image of clipboard content and test object below it as it was copied.

In addition,

As could be guessed from clipboard containing vector data, the problem is fixed if and only if receiving inkscape is closed and reopened. Clipboard data remained unchanged in between. Also text element copy works after restart.

Cannot reproduce, but as above commenters, I have had several instances open for long time. The receiving inkscape process and file was opened 12h earlier, but only worked with it for ~2hours.

Same problem here. Turning Inkscape off and on again solved the problem. In my case I had just 2 Inkscape windows open and have been using it for like an hour.

This bug can easily cost 30min+ of rework.

Still happening in Inkscape 92.3.

Objects are pasting as images.

Closed and re-opened both copies of inkscape and the problem goes away.

It's happening to me too. I'm using Windows 7 64-bit and Inkscape 92.4

Closing and reopening fixes the issue.

For me it is usually sufficient to close and re-open only the "receiving" window. (0.92.3)
