Bug Description

Same issue with 12.07.30 and Ubuntu 12.04 using the PPA. The current weather seems correct, but no forecast. ...cannot be fetched...
When I run it from the terminal I get "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gobject/constants.py:24: Warning: g_boxed_type_register_static: assertion `g_type_from_name (name) == 0' failed
  import gobject._gobject"

Is that related?

Occasionally the program exits on its own too.

I guess that forecast works only with Google service that has recently stopped working (or work correctly) :(

PS: indicator has shown correct weather from Yahoo! services

same here on ubuntu 12.04 gnome-shell and xubuntu 12.04. Recently the weather indicator started to show just 99 C instead of current temperature. With no icons.

Ok, this will never be fixed. I found a other better choice for weather it name is My-Weather-Indicator.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:atareao/indicators && sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install my-weather-indicator

I don't think the indicator-weather project development has been entirely abandoned yet.

Changed in weather-indicator:

A little fishing with Wireshark shows some interesting information. Regardless of which weather souce you choose (Google or Yahoo) the application does a DNS query for www.google.com. On my system the first reply is a IP v6 address. Then I get an IP v4 address resolution. The application then attempts to connect to Google to obtain the weather. Prior posts indicate that Google took down its weather. Google replies via HTTP and returns HTTP/1.1 403 Forbidden.

Looks like someone may have attempted to force all connections to Yahoo only to force everything to Google is stopped its weather feed.
