Shutdown/Hibernate Hangs (Linux Mint 7)

Asked by d_mat

Hi,

I am running Linux Mint 7 on a Dell Precision Desktop.
I have recently started using Back in Time (awesome program btw) to backup to an external LaCie firewire-connected drive.
The only problem I have is that when I try to shutdown or hibernate with the drive mounted either process hangs at the prompt (black screen with cursor blinking at top left). I get around this issue if I unmount and shutdown the drive.
My assumption is that Back in Time is somehow still holding on to that drive. This is strange though since I have made sure to only try to shutdown or hibernate when BiT is not backing up.

Let me know if you need more into.

are you sure this is related to BiT? For example what if you disable
scheduling: do you see the same problem...

The answer to that is yes. So I decided to do a complete test of all the options. And even uninstalling BiT leaves the same problem IF the firewire drive is attached.

Yeah, so this is embarassing :P Course I still can't find anything like this on the internet from anyone else... but that doesn't fit in here.

Thanks for your help and time! will test better next time ;)
