Calendar time is off by an hour

Asked by Raymond Chow

When I use the "Add Task to Calendar" option to add a task to the calendar, the time is always one hour off. For example, if the Absolute Deadline of the task is 8:30am, the calendar entry shows 7:30am! Am I missing something?

Hello Raymond

To answer your question, when you go to add an event to your calendar, the time isn't necessarily off by an hour. Due to the calendar system, we make it such that the event begins an hour before the deadline. So if you have a deadline of 830am, you have a calendar start time of 730am. We decided to make the event do an hour before rather an hour after, since you should be ending the event when it is due.

Sorry for the confusion.

Thanks for using Astrid!

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for the explanation. It makes sense now. I assume the "one hour
before" is not user configurable. Right? I use Astrid mainly to set up
appointments and reminders. I like it better than the built-in calendar
because of its flexibility in setting up alarms.

Anyway, great program and thanks for the reply.

Raymond,

1) the "one hour" gap is derived from the estimated time ("how long will it take?") on the first page. If you estimate that a task will take 30 minutes, then the task will be scheduled for thirty minutes before the deadline. You can't set the estimated time to 0, however.

2) alternatively, and this is probably the same amount of work, when the "new calendar event" window pops up, you can change the time when the calendar event is created.

Hope that helps.
