Creating links within sub-trees

Asked by billio

I am not sure if this is a bug or a feature.

I have a tree of pages. I am editing a page one level down in the tree.

If I create a new link in the page, the new page is at the same level in the sub-tree.

I would rather it didn't do that, I would like the link at the top level.

I have just started trying out the software. It looks very useful.

Depends on how you make the link. If you just link "foo" it will do a lookup and indeed, if no page "foo" exists in the tree above you, default to a new page "foo" in the same sub tree. To force linking to a page in the top level namespace try linking ":foo" instead.

You can find some doc about linking syntax here: http://zim-wiki.org/Usage/linking.html

Hi Jaap,

Thanks for the reply, a misunderstanding on my part. I had not appreciated
the importance of the : when linking to existing pages.

I am very impressed with this package. Thank you very much for supporting
it.

For collecting general information it appears far more useful and flexible
than a database.

I would find it useful to be able to display a list of child pages for the
currently displayed page using an action or a link rather than opening the
index pane, or alternatively open the index pane automatically at the right
place ?.

I think I would prefer some form of a link rather than an action, so you
can refer to it in a pages text.

More generally I would find it useful to refer to some actions as links :
for example a search, or a list of back links.

Anyway, thanks again.

Bill
