Zim

Equation editor doesn't work with portable MiKTeX

Asked by Ralf Jansmann

Hello,

I'm using (portable) ZIM 0.60 with Equation Editor plugin and a portable MiKTeX (current version) on Win7 64 Bit. After inserting an equation on a ZIM page an pressing "Vorschau" (preview) I see the [X] image and get the following error message:
"Während des Erstellen der Grafik trat ein Fehler auf. Möchten Sie den Quelltext trotzdem speichern?"
After saving anyway, the tex-file is in place but not latex-output files. Therefore not dvi-file.
I use a short batch to start ZIM with these two lines:

SET PATH=%PATH%;%~dp0MiKTeX_Portable\miktex\bin\;%~dp0GraphVizPortable\App\bin\;
%~dp0ZimDesktopWikiPortable\ZimDesktopWikiPortable.exe

ProcessExplorer tells me, that path variable for zim process has desired value:
Path C:\Windows\system32;C:\Windows;C:\Windows\System32\Wbem;C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\;C:\Program Files (x86)\Intel\OpenCL SDK\2.0\bin\x86;C:\Program Files (x86)\Intel\OpenCL SDK\2.0\bin\x64;;F:\PortableApps\MiKTeX_Portable\miktex\bin\;F:\PortableApps\GraphVizPortable\App\bin\;

Setting this path in a command window and running latex.exe works fine, dvipng.exe works fine.

I've already found this question here but couldn't identify an answer.
What am I missing? I'd appreciate your help
Regards, Ralf

Hi Ralf,

From your question I understand you think there is an issue with finding
the application in the PATH, however the error can also mean that the latex
you entered simply is not valid.

Did you check the "log" in the dialog? If the latex command runs but
generates some error, it should be visible there. (The log and dvi files
themselves end up in the TMP folder.)

Also might help to look at the zim error log in TMP/zim.log to see if it
gives more detail on the command. If not, run zim with the "-D" switch to
produce detailed debug output.

Hope this helps,

Jaap

Hello Jaap,

thanks for your support. I'm pretty sure about LaTeX syntax (written my math thesis using LaTeX some years ago), but I'll check. I'll have a look at logs also and give feedback afterwards.
So far a new turn: Trying to create a table using graphviz (not so sure about syntax but copied code from some source in internet, where it obviously worked) I also get the error (red cross graphic instead of table).

Regards,
Ralf

Is there any news concerning this bug?

I also encounter a problem with the latex plugin on windows (on linux it works just fine). It's a real problem for me, I would love to use zim with few other people but we should be albe to use latex equation on windows...

Sorry, my knowledge is quite limite so I don't how to change the PATH to make it work as described.

Or is there a way to make an ugly workaround to make it working?

Thanks.

Luc,

Reading back the previous comments on this question, nothing happened after
my request to see the error logging. So afraid I can't help you solve it
without further input.

Regard,s

Jaap
