Zim

Full wiki markup supported? Or only a subset?

Asked by Michelle Dear

Hi there.

I have just installed Zim, and am very impressed with it. I am wondering about the wiki markup that is supported in the tool.

My question has to do with the supported Zim wiki markup.

1. On the Zim Wiki help pages for the wiki syntax, it indicates "Examples of the wiki syntax as used by zim." This page is located at http://www.zim-wiki.org/manual/Help/Wiki_Syntax.html

Question regarding Markup supported:

1. Does this statement mean that the examples on the page are all-inclusive of the supported markup?
2. Or does it mean that the examples provided are just a few, and Zim supported all wiki markup?
3. No Michelle, you have it all wrong. :)

Thanks guys!
Michelle

The manual page describes all wiki syntax that is supported.

If you talk about "all wiki markup" you assume there is some kind of
standard that defines all wiki format. Instead all wiki software has
their own wiki format. THere is no single standard.

So zim's wiki format e.g. differs from the format supported by
wikipedia, which differs from markdown, which differs from dokuwikie,
and so on, and so on.

Hi Jaap. I figured it was something more like number 3. I'm still in research mode, and I'm figuring that out now.

Thank you so much for clarifying and answering my question so quickly!

Have a fantastic day!
