Zim

Problems installing in Windows XP

Asked by Don Brookman

Hello, I became aware of Zim from a colleague and it is very useful! I had some problems installing it in Windows XP and do not know if this is a "bug" or a "question" and so apologize if I am in the wrong place.

The current 0.54 version of Zim installs under my Windows XP computer but when I start the program nothing happens. I did a search and found about installing the Microsoft vcredist_x86.exe library and installed that, but it did not help.

I uninstalled version 0.54 and installed version 0.50. It worked fine.

I uninstalled version 0.50 and installed version 0.53. It worked fine also.

I then uninstalled version 0.53 and re-installed version 0.54, thinking perhaps it would work now. But it was as before, nothing happens when I try to start the program. So, I have gone back to version 0.53.

Version 0.54 installs and works fine on another one of my computers that runs Windows 7. I should mention that in all cases this is the full version, not the version for portable media.

So there seems to be a problem that affects only the current version 0.54, and only when installing in Windows XP instead of Windows 7.

I hope this information is useful to you in some way. Thank you for creating this software!

Please see the bug tracker - there are already several reports about issues
with the windows build for 0.54.
