Task list: v0.48 vs v0.29

Asked by Frank Van Geirt

Hi,

Some time ago I changed from the Tomboy/GNote family to Zim. And I am very pleased I've done so. Zim is great and is currently one of my main tools to perform my job. But now I have a question.

I am using Fedora 13 on my main laptop. In the repository Zim 0.29 is available and that's the one I am using. As I was curious about Zim 0.48, I installed it on my desktop computer, which is also running Fedora 13.

One of the things I noticed is the way the todo-lists (now task lists) are build. On version 0.29 I can use the TODO keyword with a bulleted list. All the bulleted items are then considered as tasks. In version 0.48 this seems not to be the case anymore. Now the tasks have to be indicated with a check box. Is this correct? Is this a change between 0.29 and 0.48? Or is this a bug?

As I am using bulleted lists a lot (currently about 260 items spread about 50 pages) I was wondering what will happen if I want to update. Do I need to manually replace all bullets? Hope not, actually. Will they be updated automatically?

Another thing I noticed is that the task list window can not be maximized. A bug?

Regards,
Frank

Yes, the use of a keyword with a bullet list has been deprecated since
the 0.2x series. Reason is that this feature was designed before
checkboxes were introduced but the same functionality is much easier
to implement cleanly with checkboxes. You can still use keywords to
distinguish between list of checkboxes that are tasks and other
checkbox lists if you want.

I'm afraid there is no function to update automatically. Looks like
you are the first to ask for this. The search function can help to
identify where the items are that need updating. If you are up to it
you can try writing a small shell script or python script to do the
updating.

Jaap

Thanks for the reply.

Actually the 0.29 release also supports checkboxes, so as I proceed through my projects and work I will change the bullets to checkboxes. This might take about a week or 2. Then I will consider switching to version 0.4*. I'm testing that anyway on another system.

As the 0.4* system is built in Python I will gradually get familiar with the code too. I've been programming in Python previously. Although I am not a programmer anymore in my daily job, I like to have some hobby projects... so hopefully I can start helping with bug solving in the future...

Frank
