Tomboy-like "Create New Note" functionality?

Asked by brian forsythe

I'm a heavy Tomboy user but would like to switch to Zim because of its feature set. I'm using Gnome & Fedora. The main thing keeping me using Tomboy is how quick it is to click on its applet and "Create New Note". Is there a way to enable similar functionality in Zim, whereby I could create a new note in my default notebook with just a click/keystroke from my launcher panel?

Well, took a screenshot to illustrate it, posted it to flickr: http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4069/4411759599_231470d391_o.png

Essentially, there's a panel applet (much like a taskbar icon in Windoze) that I click on, get a menu, click "Create a New Note".

I think some of the functionality you are looking for is requested in this bug report: https://bugs.launchpad.net/zim/+bug/439878

Can you help with this problem?
