The word "zabUdka" used for the name of this project is an artificial word derived from the Russian name of the flower Незабудка (Nezabudka), or Forget-me-not [1], [2]. The closest English approximation for this name would be "forget-me-yes". The suggested English pronunciation is [zəˈbuːdkə]

This project targets creation of a minimal Linux (Ubuntu) memory-resident loadable base providing network, graphics, and container facilities to be used mainly on stateless portable devices which do not store any information about user's actions once turned off. Hence the name chosen for the project. The middle capitalized U means relationship to Ubuntu which is the source of binary application packages.

There exist a number of web sites having "zabudka" as part of their names, and also a number of user accounts in social networks worldwide with the same. This project has absolutely no relationship to them. It is recommended to refer to this project as "zabUdka Linux" to avoid any ambiguity.
