Is yade suitable for simulating blender models?

Asked by William

Hi, everyone!
I’m trying to build a model of a blender for mixing two materials and evaluating their uniformity. The whole mixing process is very slow, but when I read others' paper of mixing simulation using EDEM, the particle movement speed is just like the real particle, and the stirring rhythm is very fast, so I would like to ask you if Yade is not suitable for this kind of simulation?
Thanks

Yade is a discrete element method (DEM) simulation framework primarily designed for simulating the behavior of granular materials and particles. It's commonly used for simulating processes like granular flow, particle packing, and contact mechanics. While Yade can handle particle interactions and movements quite well, its primary focus is on accurately simulating the physical behavior of granular materials rather than high-speed mixing processes. If you're looking to simulate a blender or mixing process involving two materials and their uniformity evaluation, Yade might not be the most suitable choice for the following reasons:
Particle Speed and Time Scale: Yade's simulations are generally designed to run at a timescale that matches the physical reality of granular materials. For high-speed mixing processes, where particle movement occurs at a significantly faster pace than typical granular processes, Yade might struggle to accurately capture the dynamics of the mixing in a time-efficient manner.
Stirring Rhythm: Yade might not be optimized for simulating the intricate and fast-paced stirring rhythms that occur in high-speed mixing scenarios. The algorithms and simulation parameters that work well for slow granular processes might not translate effectively to rapidly changing mixing patterns.
Complex Interactions and Fluid Dynamics: Mixing simulations often involve complex interactions between materials, fluid dynamics, and potentially chemical reactions. Yade's primary strength lies in particle-based simulations and might not provide the necessary tools and algorithms to accurately represent these more complex phenomena.

Hello William,

What do you mean by saying "The whole mixing process is very slow"?

Cheers,
Karol
