DFNFlowEngine for Fluid flow modeling in rock fractures

Asked by Roshan

Hello,

I am modeling a slope with parallel joints and I want to investigate the effect of water flow on slope instability. The material of the model is JCFpmMAT.

Do I have to use DFNFlowEngine, in which case I have to compile the yade?
can I use other fluid Engine such as FlowEngine?

DFNFlow is used to model fluid moving through cracks in stiff materials by reassigning permeability of cracks using a parallel plate approximation instead of a darcy flow. Your problem description is too vague for me to know if this fits your needs.

I believe DFNFlow is not compiled in yadedaily, so yes you would need to compile yade. DFNFlow is a derivative of FlowEngine.

Thanks Robert, that solved my question.
