Measure the angle of a sphere heap w/ Paraview

Asked by Nicola on 2020-11-07

Hi all,

in order to check the "actual" internal friction angle of a sphere pack I'm simulating a heap test letting a sphere pack fall on a flat plane. At the end if the simulation I've a conical heap made of spheres.
How can I get the sloping angle of the latter? Is there a kind of goniometer tool in Paraview (importing vtk files of the simulation)?
Thanks a lot!

I have no idea.

Why not just take the angle by finding the particle with the max Z coordinate and particle with the max X/Y coordinate? Much easier and doesn't involve external software.

Cheers,

Robert

Thanks for the answer Robert,

your solution, properly managed, could solve my problem. However, considering my purpose, I'll just do something graphic based.

Bye,
