Simulating a brush

Asked by Rohit John

Hello,

I would like to simulate a sphere making contact with a brush. The sphere and the brush are not fixed space and both can move freely. The brush is made of individual bristles whose response to a force can be modeled using the beam bending theory. I want model the bristle as cantilever which is loaded at its free end when the sphere touches it.

I want to simulate this large number of bristles and the dynamics of the sphere and brush in YADE. Is it possible? Or is it better to write my own code?

Kind regards,
Rohit

Hello Rohit,

> Is it possible?

yes (should be), depending on other factors (like if the individual bristles should also interact or it does not matter)

have a look (in documentation and in other questions) at CohFrictMat, CohFrictPhys etc.

> Or is it better to write my own code?

it depends. If the code offered by Yade is suitable for your needs, I would not go the way writing you own code.
But for sure it is also an option.

cheers
Jan
