a pack of polyhedral particles with determined porosity

Asked by Mahdeyeh

Hello

I am a beginer in YADE. I want to know how we can prepare a pack of polyhedral particles with defined porosity? Is it possible to have porosity close to zero in them?

I would appreciate it if you can help me.

Hello,

you can use several approaches, e.g.:

1)
something similar to SpherePack.makeCloud, i.e. creating randomly loose packing of polyhedrons and then compress it

2)
some geometric method, where you e.g. split the region recursively in polyhedrons. With this approach, you can have porosity exactly zero. You can then modify each polyhedron (make it smaller, "cut" some edges etc.) to reach desired porosity.

surely there are other options.

cheers
Jan
