Yade daily install problem

Asked by raiden

Hello,

I try to install yade daily on virtual box ubuntu hosted on windows 10.

I followed the steps as recommended of FAQs;
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:yade-pkg/snapshots
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install yade-daily

However it did`t work and I got errors as;

Reading package lists...Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Unable to locate package yade-daily

So after all I could not manage to install yade.

What did I do wrong?

Hi,

See https://answers.launchpad.net/yade/+question/678447 (which seems to be still relevant).

Looking at http://yade-dem.org/packages/bionic/ (it's a web page), it seems packages have indeed changed of complete name.

Replace thus the *.deb file names of https://answers.launchpad.net/yade/+question/678447 with what you can observe at http://yade-dem.org/packages/bionic/.
(some knowledge about what wget command and .deb files are would not hurt, but internet will be much more useful to you in this aspect, than me)

Looking at your error "dpkg: error: requested operation requires superuser privilege" strongly suggests you also need to have administrator rights ("sudo ..." in Linux)

PS : http://yade-dem.org/packages/bionic/ is relevant to your case only if your ubuntu version is a bionic one (again, ask Google what are the recent Ubuntu versions ;-) )
The supported (id est, having available yadedaily packages) ubuntu versions (= their names) appear at http://yade-dem.org/packages/

Thank you Jerome, indeed files are changed so it can`t install in the first place. Now I managed to install.

Hello, according to the website you provided( http://yade-dem.org/packages/bionic/ ), it seems 404 now. Do you know the latest address of Yadedaily's deb file?

There seems to be some issues currently with http://yade-dem.org in general (http://yade-dem.org itself is not at it should). Usually these issues are temporary.

Check again the */packages* URL once you get back the doc at http://yade-dem.org, and let us know.
