simulate interactions between soil and plastic membrance

Asked by guo

this is my first time for contacting Yade. I want to ask whether this software can simulate the interactions between soil an plastic membrance? The membrance are inclueded in soil. If it can do that, can you tell me what should i do?

Welcome to Yade!

Are you referring to a flexible membrane? I guess you would need to get creative with your boundary conditions. There is no easy to implement engine for flexible boundaries AFAIK. I guess WooDEM does support flexible boundaries:

"Hi Fu, WooDEM (fork of yade) implements flexible membranes, as shown e.g. in https://woodem.org/cases/cyl-triax/index.html . HTH, Václav"

>The membrance are inclueded in soil.

I do not understand. The membrane is included in the soil?

Hi,

we also have some kind of flexible membranes in Yade. For example, here [1] we simulated a pull-out test. The theory is published in [2]. Obviously in our approach the membrane needs to have a finite thickness.

Not sure what you mean by "plastic" and what exactly you want to simulate.

Thank you Klaus,i am very excited for your answer, your answer is my best CHINA Mid-Autumn festival gift.I have read your thesis
before, but I didn't think it is you replying me.
In china, years ago, farmers plant cotton using mulch membranes, but they couldn't recycle the mulch membranes completely.Hence a lot of membrance were left in the soil. I want to study the mechanical properties when the membranes in soil were recycled by angricultural machinery.
your thesis offer great help for me, thank you again.I just started learning Yade,Can you tell me the steps to build a physical model of membrance inclusion in the soil, so that I can learn and solve problem.

Hi,

some examples on how to build membranes are here [1]. You should probably
also look into [2] as pFactes are constructed from cylinders. You can
combine pFactes and Cylinders with spheres.

I am trying simulate" pull the membrane form soil".I meet such problerms: when compressed the soil, why the sphere particle can pass throug the wall and Facet; can i email my program to you, and you give some suggestions,i try again and again ,thank you for your help
