How to display force chain with varying width in ParaView

Asked by Huihuang Xia

Hi,

In post-processing, I plan to display force chain in ParaView. Thus, in my intrs files, CellDatatoPointData and Tube were used, but I can not adjust the width of the force chain corresponding to the magnitude of the forces, all the tubes were the same radius.
Figure 13b in a publication titled 'YADE-OPEN DEM: an opensource software using a discrete element method to simulate granular material' displayed a varying width of the force chain corresponding to the magnitude of the forces. Can you tell me how to display my results like that?

Many thanks,

Huihuang Xia

Hello,

Jan, thanks for your answer, but [1] only got an equivalent width of all the force chains as I described above.

Thus, I still need an answer.

Many thanks,

Huihuang Xia

Hello,

[1] normally works without problems achieving width according to the
force.. to help you more, we need more info:
- what version of Paraview do you use?
- did you actually try the last two points: Set “Vary Radius” to “By
Scalar” and Set “Radius” and “Radius Factor” such that the result looks OK ?
- also what you save (force magnitude or force vector?) might influence the
results, like [2]. Could you please provide a MWE or saved VTK data?

cheers
Jan

Hi,

Thanks Jan, I installed the latest version (5.3.0) of ParaView three days ago. I tried to adjust 'Radius Factor' and other parameters, but failed to get a varying width of tube. The VTK files contain too many lines of codes to upload here, thus I send one of VTK files to your E-Mial.

Thanks for your patience,

Huihuang

Besides, my YADE is a development version (2017.01a).
