Periodic Packing of Faceted Shape

Asked by Daniel Barker

I am looking to make periodic packings of shapes represented as faceted geometries. I found Yade and see it can generate periodic packings of spheres. In the documentation it says that Faceted shapes cannot currently interact with each other; so I was wondering, is it possible to convert these faceted geometries to a collection of tetraheda (or similar) and then use this to form a periodic packing? I have no idea how I would go about using Yade to do this so any guidance would be appreciated.

Hi,

you can construct, of course, any figure from facets, but (as said) they can not be
periodic.

Actually, facets in Yade are non-inertial bodies, i.e. they can be moved only explicitly,
setting their velocity manually.

I do not, whether I answered your question...

I read in the docs that you can add things such as mass and moment of inertia, I know both the mass and the moment of inertia tensors for my object so this is not a problem but it says facets cannot interact. Thus I would like to know if it is possible to have YADE (or some other software) convert these faceted shaped to unions of tetra- or polyhedra? And if so, is it possible to generate periodic packings of these?

Can you help with this problem?
