sorry, this is a gnome project. i may consider a kde version if the issue of modifying xsplash stays in lucid.
meanwhile you may just change the background image manually by replacing the "bg_" files in /usr/share/images/xsplash/.

We have now moved to plymouth in lucid,and the devs wont be using xsplash in Kubuntu
