I need a version of the client for Vista 64 bit OS.

Asked by Slayres

I have several PC's with Windows Vista 64 bit OS installed. I cannot install the current client software on these computers. Can you please compile a version of the client for Windows Vista 64 bit OS's?

Unfortunately I don't have a 64-bit platform to test with (yet, I will get a VM running when I have a chance). What is the stopping point for you? I'm guessing its the installation that is the problem? Rather than actually running the client.

If it is just the installation I will make you a new MSI which will allow the installation of a 32-bit package on 64-bit. However whether the client will work or not I don't know.

I will wait for your feedback.

Hi Dan. Yes, it is during installation. I would greatly appreciate a new MSI which would allow me to install the client in a 64 bit OS. I will let you know how/if the client works.

I love the work you guys are doing. I wouldn't mind helping somehow.

Hi Scott,

I will build you a MSI that should install on 64bit as soon as I get a minute (tomorrow early evening GMT I suspect)... will be interesting to see if the client works as intended.

We are always open to offers of help... you could drop in on our forum http://xibo.org.uk with any ideas/stuff you want to do.

Cheers,
Dan

Hi Dan,

I was wondering what the status of the new MSI was. Thanks.

Hi Scott,

Apologies for taking so long! I was trying to roll it into 1.0.3 so I didn't have to generate an intermediate MSI (means I have to play with version numbers). If I can't get the 1.0.3 client in a release state before the end of the week I will generate a new MSI regardless.

Cheers,
Dan

Will build today now that a large client blueprint is complete.

I have built you a copy of the DEBUG code for the soon-to-be-released 1.0.3 build of the client. The only change I made for 64bit was to the MSI and not to Xibo itself.

As we have said before the Xibo client has never been tested on 64bit - so we would be interested to hear any feedback (i.e. does it work).

Sorry it has taken some time - the logging in 1.0.3 was tweaked a little and I wanted to make sure it was all working OK before creating this MSI.

Here is the link:

Good Luck!
Dan

Hello Dan,

Thank you very much for this. I can happily report that the client does indeed work on my PC using Windows Vista 64-bit OS. I have a screen with a web page, text, RSS feed, and ppt file, all working perfectly.

Ah brilliant!!
1.0.3 will be out soon and will include a non-debug client with the same
options in the MSI as you have there. I would definately reccommend that you
switch to that when it comes out... you will be generating quite a bit of
auditing at the moment.

Glad it worked for you!

Cheers,
Dan
