Text objects in library?

Asked by bede

Xibo we like. Currently planning model for implementation.

What would be useful is sharing text objects, via the library perhaps, as with images etc.

Had a scout round and cannot see any other relevant question.

Is this feasible at present? If so how? (sorry if we have missed something obvious)
If not - can this question become a feature request? (RSS may be the workround for time being)

TIA

Glad you like Xibo!

Saving text in the library is not currently possible - there is no technical reason why not and in fact we used to operate entirely in that way. We changed to the current system because it wasn't always clear that editing a piece of library text would effect many layouts.

You might want to see this feature request: https://blueprints.launchpad.net/xibo/+spec/content-streams. I think it might the requirements of reusable text.

Cheers,
Dan

Yes the feature request would do the trick, assuming a text object can be one of the items in the content stream. Look forward to it.

Many thanks.

Yeah - it will be. We thrashed this out in detail last night. I'll be a really nice feature to have, although we're already renamed it to Timelines as it's less confusing (especially when you see how it's going to be implemented).

Cheers

Alex

I like the idea. Let's include RSS feeds and anything else as well.

You'll be able to put any media in a Timeline. Believe me you don't want to get in to having Text in the library. Firstly you end up with thousands of slightly different formatted strings that are all the same in there, and secondly it's a total pain having to give each one a meaningful name and description. It's much better as it is now.
