Client/Server network relationship

Asked by Rob Robertson

Hi Alex,

Me again. :-) My server is on one subnet and the client is on another. Is this supported, or do both need to be on the same subnet? I went to register my display with the following information:

Xibo Service URL: https://www.xibo.co.uk/server_name/xmds.php (where server_name is the domain name for my server)
Entered the server key
Display name entered
Clicked Register

Error: Unable to connect to remote server

Am I filling in the information correctly? Just as some added information, on the Xibo settings tab in options I have the URI for the server set to:
https://www.xibo.co.uk/server_domain_name

Thanks,
Rob

Hi Rob,

The URI for the server should be the URI for your local installation.

For example if you access your admin interface by going
http://myserver/xibo/ then this is what you should put in as the server URI.

Hope this helps,
Dan

Hi Rob

We absolutely support multiple subnets. Indeed Xibo has been designed to work over a WAN just as well as a LAN.

As Dan says, put in your local installation URI, and then crucially click "Save" before attempting to register the client.

Once registered, you'll need to go in to Displays in the server management menu and authorise the new display.

Cheers

Alex

Rob has inferred that this is solved in his latest question, so marking as such.
