Is it possible to make the entire background of a text box transparent i.e. not just the text background colour but the whole box?
Cheers,
Richard

Hi Richard
I'm not quite sure what you mean :D
If you put a text box on a layout, go in to the text box and put some text in, the default is that the background to that box should be transparent - see the example screenshots here:
http://
All of the text on those layouts, including the RSS tickers have transparent backgrounds.
Cheers

Hi Alex,
See the attached screen shot, the problem is occurring when I set a background image for the layout then try to add text over it.
Cheers,
Richard

It shouldn't be like that - it certainly isn't on my clients.
The only time I've seen it do that is when you have a badly behaved Flash object scheduled on a layout.
Can you try reloading the client - that normally fixes it if that is the problem.

Got it.
That's a bug. The background transparency on text boxes (and probably RSS tickers) is broken if the background image is a GIF.
If you convert that background to a JPEG that will solve it for now.
I'll raise a bug for the GIF issue. Please mark this solved as the bug will track the GIF issue.
Cheers

Hi Eberhardt,
Does this only occur at the start of a new text item? This could be when a text item first starts, when a text item changes to a new text item, etc.. If so there may be an explanation for this.
When a text item changes to another text item (or to a RSS item) it reloads the background image - this is an unfortunate side effect of the way a text item is implemented in the .NET client. This flash will be worse the lower the client hardware spec. I am fairly certain that this will not be a problem in the forthcoming Python client being written by Alex.
If you confirm my suspicions I will convert this to a bug with a view to making this smoother - perhaps as a minor release of 1.0
Thanks,
Dan

Hi Dan,
the bg-color-flash occurs at every item-change WITHIN a Region, not only before text items.
I'm testing here on a quiet quick sony-laptop: I have created 4 "Regions":
1. pic->pic->pic->pic -------
2. static text->static text->static text->static text ---- 0,25 second flash
3. pic->pic -------
4. rss-feed (only one, noch item changes) -------------- no problems (only charset problems, but that will be an other thread... ;-))
Thank you for your great work!

Hi there,
Ive been doing a bunch of research on this issue and still have a bunch of odd problems. The text boxes/RSS feeds that im creating come in with a default white background. Is there a switch I have missed somewhere to prevent that? I do want the transparencies. I noticed that this issue might have been because of broken links/improper flash scripts so i have removed any in my regions. However, this did not solve my issue. Any other steps that could help me?

Hayden,
Thanks for doing some research into it... the attached bug still hasn't been solved... it was marked as "Won't Fix" without a comment so I am not sure why.
Could you confirm that the layout you are running on has a PNG or JPG as its background image - or indeed no background image at all.
Eberhardt,
The background colour flashing is now completely solved in 1.0.3.. along with a number of other visual tweaks to the client to make it much smoother. If you try 1.0.3 I think you will like it!

running a PNG as a background image. I have a PP running to I dont know if thats an issue but it seems by default its giving everything a white background even without the PP running.

If you:
1. create a simple example layout from one of the templates with a red background.
2. resize the region on it so that you can see the background
3. put a text item in that region
4. run on the display
I would expect you get a completely red screen except for your text... what do you get though?

Perhaps your PNG has a transparency in it (alpha channel) and this is causing the same behaviour as with a gif? As well as Dan's suggestion, try converting the background image to a jpg and try again.

Yah it does have some transparency in it. I tried adjusting it to JPG and it doesnt like it either. Red background works so it does have something to do with my background layout. I guess its a feature to be improved? or is it something to avoid from now on?
