mysql install problem

Asked by Plawlor

hi there,

At work we have a plasma screen and only displays powerpoint, i like to do more with the screen, so someone found xibo, and so I thought I try it out. but since I wasn't successfully installed mysql onto my personal computer (localhost), i am unable to use it locally. so I am trying it out on my ISP webhost, that has php, mysql (single database) etc, and all up to date too.

but I enter in the deails

then I receive

MySQL Error:
Can't create database 'db1'; database exists

I have tried many options to install xibo, but all fail....

can anyone help me?

Hi.

I guess your ISP makes the database for you? If so, you need to use the "Use Existing" database route in the installer.

The easiest way to try Xibo on a local machine is either XMPP on Windows or Ubuntu in a virtual machine (VMware/VirtualBox) - use the LAMP server install option.

Cheers

Just one thought. If you only have a single database with your ISP, it needs to be empty for Xibo to use it. If you already have something using the database then that is likely the cause of your problem.

For testing, I'd strongly recommend you install something locally for now.

Ah, since I am so tired, I didn't read that correctly...

So using the 'use existing'
I fill in all 4 text boxes, then click 'create', and I receive

"A field was blank. Please fill in all fields."

OK - you're quite right. That's a bug. I've fixed it and pushed the change in to a new branch in Launchpad.

It will be fixed in the next release of Xibo.

For now, I'll attach a replacement install.php to the bug report so that you can replace the version you have and get Xibo installed.

Cheers

Alex

Great - You must be the first person to need that route in the installer :D

someone has to do the "real testing" of the awesome application. :)
