Hi Gummio

The client uses Internet Explorer to play Powerpoint items - because Powerpoint offers very little by way of an API to hook in to it.

Save any old powerpoint file on your desktop.
Open Internet Explorer on the client, and then drag the PP file in to the address bar of IE.
IE should pop up a box asking what you want to do with the file. Say Open and make sure the "Always do this with files of this type" is checked.

The powerpoint should then open inside IE.

That should then work inside the player too.

Cheers

Alex

Is it compatible with IE7/ ppt's created with PPT 2007?

I created a ppt (and a .pps, to test) and saved in 2003 compatibility. Upon attempting to open them with IE7, it would only ask if I wanted to save/open and continue looping from there.

It's certainly works with IE7. That's what I have on my boxes. I don't have a copy of Office 2007 to test.

We're 100% relying on IE to do the right thing here. By default, IE is configured to load Powerpoint files in the browser.

There is a Microsoft KB here: http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;148897 which describes how to force that behaviour if it isn't happening automatically.

It doesn't specifically mention Windows XP, but all the options for Windows 2000 are still there and appear to be as described. It's worth having a go.

I think I have an alternative to this - but must pull it from my archives - ( and my brain archives ;-)

Please leave this unsloved - , I'm sure its in the run command , or start command.....

I'll get back to you on this one.
I programtically run Powerpoin Via Vb in a window , but can't remember which app I did it in....

Looking :-)

As Alex said we are 100% relying on IE to do the correct thing here. The .NET can only have control over a PowerPoint *if* it is full screen (and that is not always the case).

A good way to test would be by simply typing the location of a PPT into the IE address bar (a better test would be if you uploaded it to your web server). If it displays in the IE window then the client will also play it correctly.

I can tell you that the Office 2007 PPT file formats will not work. It will have to be saved in the 2003 format.

Hope this helps...

Dan

In this case you can try software-based instrument viewing/reading/restoring powerpoint files of any version MS PowerPoint. You may look at tool below
