ubuntu 12.04 client connection issue

Asked by james m

Hi All, im new here :)

i have installed xibo server version 164 on linux mint 17, and all is good.
I have installed the xibo client 1.6.0 on ubuntu 1204, that seems fine too.
But when i run it, all seems fine but it stays on the xibo splash screen. I have looked on the info screen by pressing "i". all show a gray dot, apart from display licence, which shows red, so i login the xibo server to give this client the licence, but this client never shows up?? on the client pc, i can access the xibo server. also i noticed on the client info screen no IP is shown nor the disk space??

also i hace tried reinstalling the xibo client, but still have the above issue.

can any one help please, as would really love to get it up and running.

thank you so much

james m

hello,

did you configure the client (edit site.cfg) ?
did you licensed the client in your server ?

Hi SMarty
thank you for getting back :)
yes i have edit the site.cfg to the needed settings to connect to the xibo server.

I cant licence the client as it does not show up in display on the xibo server.

maybe check if both server and client are on the same sub-network

Hi Smarty

they are on the same sub-network.

on the client machine i can access the xibo server.
the OS of the client machine is ubuntu 12.04, and the server machine is linux mint 17, could this have an effect??
had a look around on a few sites relating xibo, it seems the norm that the os is ubuntu 10.04, is this a more reliable os for xibo?

I am not involved in Xibo, i am just a user.

I have an Ubuntu 14.04 running xibo 1.6.4 server and have different clients in Ubuntu, Xubuntu and ElementaryOS for tests. No problem. I think there is no problem using Mint as the server.

What does your site.cfg look like ?

Hi SMarty

I did have a feeling it could be the fact im using linux mint as the server, but having said that it looks fine and seems to be working fine??

what part of the site.cfg are you referring to, or do you mean the whole site.cfg file?

for example, do you have the right key assigned to your client in site.cfg (the same you assigned the server) ?

Yep thats all good.

what version client do you have for your xibo server?

on mine, the xibo server is 1.6.4 and the client is 1.6.0

hmmm, makes me wonder if it the fact that xibo server is on mint??

i don't think this is the problem as Xibo just need a standard server, i am quite sure it could also be under Fedora or Arch...
Maybe a server configuration.

the server im running on the linux mint is apache2.

but i can access the xibo server on the client pc, so it cant be a connection issue??

Hi SMarty
Great news!! I cracked it!! :)

It was the fact that between the client ans server there is a network switch, its been there before i worked here, anyway i logged in the switch interface, and noticed it was being blocked!! shock! so just reconfigured the switch and updated the firmware then boom! all good :)

thank you so much for your time and help you have been awesome :)
