Xibo Referencing External File

Hello! We are beginning to setup ibo in our school. Just getting my head round it, and i think its great, i've managed to set it up on our internal iis server, and configured one client so far.

I need to make this simple for the office staff to update, and if i try and get them to log into a website to update the screens, it just wont happen. I need to make this simple to update, even when in meetings, and would like the content to be reusable.

What i would like to do is have a ticker that pulls from a text file. - let me explain.

On our server i will have a text file called staffanouncements,txt (say at http://server/xibo/staffannouncements.txt) would it be possible for xibo to read the text file, and display its contents on a ticker at all?

Hi Karl,

If you were to format your text file as a RSS/Atom feed then that would certainly be possible.

You would probably need a PHP script that looks at your text file, constructs a RSS feed and then outputs it - which really shouldn't be too hard to do.

You could also look at importing the text file into a dataset (as an alternative). Someone here recently wrote a dataset importer which uses the Xibo API that they might be willing to share with you (you might have to search for the question though).

i also plan to link textfiles that i can edit into xibo. but i didnt found out how i could do that.
