Can you update the server without updating the client?

We are currently running version 1.4.2 of the Xibo server with 1.4 clients. Can we upgrade the server to 1.6.x without updating the clients, or do they need to be updated at the same time?

Also, can we install a 1.6.x client and have it connect to a 1.4.x server?

You need to check the release notes, but in general your client and server
versions should match

Just as a suggestion for the future then, it would be nice if there was a way to get the clients auto updating. I have 32 clients, spread over 6 different buildings in 3 geographically different locations with a view to adding a lot more in the not too distant future.

Great product though, keep up the good work.

The bones of auto update is already there in 1.6 series, but the clients
don't support it fully yet. It is coming.

Brilliant news. Do you have a definite timeline for that. Just wondering if we should postpone an update to the latest version and skip to whichever version will support it.

I think i'd suggest waiting until 1.6.4 gets released (probably next week) and then proceed without auto-upgrade. The auto-upgrade function will be a while as getting it right it is so critical.
