Open source and Spring Signage

Asked by Mike Lowrey

Dear devs, associates, and all other xibo friends ,

I would like to give a comment on the way the project is projected on the website.

We use/sell the software for a couple of years with a lot of enthusiasm.

On the new website, the only thing i see now, is SpringSignage…SpringSignage….SpringSignage again and again.

It looks more now that xibo is made by SpringSignage only, and only sold by SpringSignage.

In my opinion, on open source projects, everyone should get a equal change. SpringSignage already has the android version for his own. Why block all other relating company's ? (Yes, i did see the small link somewhere on the bottom of a page)

I think it would be honest, that the visitor makes the choose of the company the want to work with, and not get pushed to SpringSignage. This doesn't improve the relations and support on long term for the project.

Looking forward to see reactions from everyone.

Wr. Mike.

Hi Mike

Thanks for your feedback.

Spring Signage are the official project sponsors and almost exclusively
fund the project and it's continued development.

Annual donations for the project are in the order of a few hundred pounds
which would barely cover the projects hosting costs, never mind any
development work.

Spring Signage now provide a developer working full time on the project and
that will show when the new 1.7 alpha is released.

The core CMS and clients are free and open source and will continue to be
so. We offer a place for selected partners to advertise their offering in
the Xibo directory. That can only continue while the project has sufficient
funding to continue moving forward.

I'm sorry you feel that the Spring Signage branding is 'heavy' on the new
website, however we feel we have explained that people have a choice where
they host their CMS and that purchasing a commercial client is not
mandatory.

Best wishes

Alex

We will make the Xibo directory more prominent on the commercial page in the interests of balance, however let's be clear that Alex and I put a serious quantity of time into Xibo, fund all of the website hosting and all of the full time development ourselves.

To be blunt, funding through Spring Signage keeps this project alive and moving forward, without it you wouldn't have anything to sell!

We still encourage everyone to use the free open source version and hope that the new website demonstrates the power of Xibo in a much better way than the previous one.

Please check back in a few days to see if the additional details on the commercial page are to your liking.
