XiboClient 1.6.2 client crash on start

Asked by John Calderwood

I upgraded my Xibo server from 1.4.2 to 1.6.2, and now my win32 clients on Win 7 SP1 seem to crash upon start. I tried clean installing the client, and I tried downgrading to 1.4.2 clients. The clients are supposed to play a powerpoint 2010 slideshow.

First thing is to run Windows Update and ensure you have all the latest
updates for the dot net framework including the optional ones.

You need at the very minimum 3.5sp1

KernelBase errors are sometimes due to user profile corruption. It might be worthwhile to log in as a different user, rename the old users profile folder and log back in as that user to see if the new profile creation fixes the issue.

Somehow the most used layout, which probably had a good few hundred PowerPoints uploaded to it, was causing the problem. I deleted the old layout, created a new one, and so far no more problems. I'll test more next week to know for certain that this resolves the issue.

I have so far isolated the problem to certain PowerPoints. I still do not know why certain PowerPoints will crash Xibo however.

Can you help with this problem?
