Powerpoint doesn't start without file open dialogue

Asked by Simon

Hi,

I know that this has been an enduring topic with Xibo for some time. However, I've spent a number of days now trying to set up my Xibo system to display powerpoint files without getting the "open/save/cancel" dialogue. I also don't have a "do this in future" checkbox either
I've trawled both the launchpad and MS KB's and tried a number of patches and FAQ's with no fix.

The setup is as follows:
Xibo: 1.6.2 (latest I believe)
OS : Win7
IE: IE11
Powerpoint: Set up as required with automatic timings, "Browsed by an individual window" Checked but "Show Scroll bar" unchecked., saved as ppt (93 - 2003 format)

Registry Changes:
-All Powerpoint relevant keys (eg Powerpoint.show.8) "BrowserFlags" = dword:0x00, "EditFlags" = dword:0x00
-Screen savers and logon without password setup (probably not relevant but here for completness)

I'm running Xampp on the same machine as the client with only apache and sql started. The servers (APACHE, SQL, XIBO) & client are working since designs get displayed and served as needed. It's only when a powerpoint file comes alone, that I get the open/save/cancel dialogue.

Any ideas?

Regards

Simon

You need to use the correct registry patch for the version of office you
have. You don't say which you're using so I can't say, but in your example
you refer to the office.8 keys which from memory are for Office 2003.
Assuming you have something newer then they won't have any effect at all
and you need to use the correct patch for it to work

Hi Alex,

Thank-you for the quick response.

We are running office 2007 and I have applied the registry patch from MS KB#927009 and still get the same problem. I have also tried different values suggested by other articles for these "Browserflags" and "Editflags" keys. All of which have not fixed the problem.

The machine is on a corporate network and there may be other registry changes that have been made that I can't see but I have local admin rights and can make any other changes required.

Regards

Simon

Hi Guys,

I still don't have a solution and I'll have to abort using xibo if I can't get this working.

I have applied numerouse registry patchs trying to fix this and none have worked. I've rebooted each time I have modified the registry too.

The best solution is to convert the PowerPoint to a video first. It's far
more reliable

Unfortunately its an enduring topic because we can't do much about it. We hand off PowerPoint playback to IE as that has a built in ActiveX control for displaying PowerPoint - in the cases where the open / save dialog appears it is because PowerPoint has decided to do that, rather than Xibo.

By far the best way forward, as Alex suggested is to export to a video directly from PowerPoint. This is just as easy for the use (they have to save the file any way), has great support for all the PowerPoint features and gives you a far more usable file as a result.

Can you help with this problem?
