Xibo Client upgrade to 1.6 from 1.4.2

Installing the 1.6 client over the 1.4.2 client (in hopes of retaining settings), I get the error message "A more recent version of Xibo Player is already installed on this computer". Is there a more appropriate way of upgrading the client without having to re-enter the settings?
Guess I should mention, .msi installer on Windows 7 x64.

The version numbers got a bit messed up in 1.4 series (our fault entirely), but they needed correcting so we could support in place upgrades moving forwards.

If you un-install 1.4 and then install 1.6 there is a good chance your settings will still be there as they are stored in the user profile and the application identification has not changed (so it will match).
