Changing order of timeline elements when edit permissions are not present

Asked by Matthew Holder

Hi,

I've set up a layout with two regions. Region 1 has two timeline elements. One of these has view and edit permissions and the other has only view permissions.

I am still able to change the order of these region elements. Is this a feature or a slight flaw in logic?

Cheers, Matt

Hi Matt

I would expect the region permission to control ordering - not the media permissions.

What settings do you have on the region?

When reporting this, the region had edit permissions for the relevant user.

Once I had changed the region permission for that user, I was no longer able to open the timeline for that region

Matt, that sounds correct then? When a user has "edit" permissions for a region they will be able to view and change the ordering of the timeline media items.

Apologies if I am missing the problem - the permissions model is so new I am sure there will be some hiccups.

Hi again both,

So, would you agree with me that it is not currently possible to let a user view the contents of a layout and have edit access to one item on a timeline on one region and not be able to change the order of region elements?

Am I right in saying that view access to a layout only lets one view the layout from the layout list and not see the layout itself?

I understand your argument that timeline ordering should be layout permissions, but on the other hand, I could see that to change the order of two timeline elements, one would need permissions to edit those elements

I'd say we need to change it so that if you have read-only permissions on a region you can still see the timeline to get access to edit a particular media item, but so that you can't re-order the timeline items.

I think that sounds like the optimal solution.
