Need help with user permissions

Asked by Eric Bauer

Hello. I need some help getting user permissions set up correctly. I currently have a system running that has two users defined and placed into the same group(called mfg). I have every page security assigned to the group in the group setup. Both users are setup as group admins. If I create a template as one of the users, I can not seem to figure out how to set the permissions correctly so the other user may edit the template. I have the template permissions set so the group mfg may edit it. I also have each region in the template set so that group mfg may edit. What am I doing wrong?

I'm assuming you are running 1.4?

Substituting "template" for "layout" then it sounds like you are pretty close to having it working. On your layout, select permissions and set "view" and "edit" permissions for the MFG group.

Likewise in your designer, set view and edit for the region permissions.

It is not necessary for both users to be group admins.

Hello Dan,

Yes, I am using version 1.4 This is a new install, so I am just learning the system.

I had these items already configured as you suggest, but I went back and double checked them anyway. Everything looks correct to me. Still the problem remains. Other users in the group mfg can open the layout, but all of the regions are blank and nothing can be done with them. Only the creator can edit the layouts.

Is there something else I can check?

Thanks,

Eric

Just to be clear - user X and user Y belong to MFG.

X creates a layout, adds some regions and some content. Y logs in and cannot see the layout at all.

X edits the permissions of the layout to give MFG view and edit permissions, Y can now see and click design/edit in the layout.

If Y clicks design, they can see grey boxes where the regions are, but cannot view or edit them.

X designs the layout, right clicks the regions and for each one sets view and edit permissions to MFG - Y can now see, move and double click regions.

If X has given permissions to MFG from the beginning, these would have been copied down as they created the layout.

Which point in the above process is breaking down?

For me, the process is still working as you describe after X assigns read/write permissions to the laypout for group MFG. At this point, Y can see grey boxes where the regions are, but can not do anything with them. But then after X assigns read/write permissions to each region for group MFG, Y can still only see grey boxes.

OK, I have figured out what I was doing wrong! I was setting the permissions for the timelines in the regions, but not for the regions themselves. I am now setting the permission for the timeline AND the region and this problem is fixed for me.

That's the good news. Now, I am still having a problem with allowing standard users and group admins to schedule layouts using the calendar. I can do it as a xibo_admin, but not as a standard user. Could you give me a list of the permissions that need to be set to allow standard users to schedule to a display from the calendar?

Thanks,

Eric

How far do you get?

Out the box a standard user should be able to get to the schedule calendar - from then onwards you need to give them view permissions to the layouts and displays / display groups.

As a point to note, you should be able to set the default permissions to 'public' from the settings - saves doing this for each new item.

Can you help with this problem?
