scheduling a calendar of events

Asked by Valeria Hysong

I would like to know what would be the easiest way of publishing a calendar of events in Xibo.

Once a month I make a Powerpoint file with one slide to each event in town. The problem is that, for example, on June 20th the powerpoint is still showing the events that happened on June 1st.

Would Xibo have a feature that would make this process more efficient?
For example, after the event date is passed it would not show that slide anymore.

Thanks, Val

You best best would be to ditch the power point and have a layout in xibo for each event, you could then schedule them as required.

That would work well if each layout has only one region, right?

I’m envisioning having at least 2 regions on a layout:
- The main region would publish info about the event
- The second region on the bottom I could have unrelated information, for example a RSS ticker.

In this case the second region would be interrupted and started again every time the next layout comes up, right?

Not sure if I’m being clear :)

Thanks a lot for your help!!!

You're correct.

You could maybe pull your event data in using an RSS feed? If you have something that outputs the forthcoming events only as RSS?

Failing that right now you either have to manually remove the expired items from that region timeline or have the other ticker restart at each change.

Using an RSS feed seems like a great idea! The only think is that i would loose the animation I make on PowerPoint. By any chance does the Xibo have animation features?

I was trying to use an RSS feed, but I couldnt get it to work.
The website is http://bakerorcoc.weblinkconnect.com/cwt/external/wcpages/wcevents/eventsstartpage.aspx
and the RSS is http://bakerorcoc.weblinkconnect.com/cwt/external/wcpages/wcevents/eventsstartpage.aspx?RSS=True

Should I open a new question?

Thanks, Val

Xibo doesn't have animation right now. If you want that, you'll need to stick to PowerPoint.

Your RSS feed should work OK I think - perhaps you haven't quite got it set right.

There's loads of questions on setting up RSS. If you can't get it working after having a read through them, then feel free to post a new question, but be sure to say what version of Xibo you're using and exactly how you have the RSS media type setup.

Best wishes

Alex
