Content missing when accessing remotely

Asked by Simon Parker

When I log into the local host web page I can view and access library items and view and create new layouts. However from any other machine on the network login works fine but there are no layouts, displays or library items shown and I cannot create any. I have added permissions on the network share but have clearly missed something obvious.

Network share? There shouldn't be any network shares involved.

You need the server installed on one machine with a local library directory to store media etc. Access to that is via the webserver (usually Apache as part of XAMPP).

The client then has its own local library directory and it gets its content from the server - you shouldn't be trying to share the server library or anything like that.

Hi Alex

Many thanks for your quick response
I have moved my storage to the local volume and rebooted the VM. All is as before. Through local host I can see everything I have set up but accessing via another machine shows no content nor will it allow any creation.
Any suggestions?
Your help very much appreciated

I think you have something fundamentally wrong.

Can you describe exactly the steps you use to access Xibo locally, and then the steps you use to access it remotely?

Locally I launch IE 9 for example and navigate to either localhost /xibo or ipaddress _ of _ server/xibo

Remotely I just enter the ipaddress _ of _ server/xibo

This then gives me the login page

Once there I cannot see or create any content

I have never set up any xaamp or xibo before so I am guessing I have gone wrong there somehow although the process seemed pretty automated.

Local host of VM Client used as server W7Pro:

Logging in from remote machine gives me this:

Don't use IE9. It doesn't work with any currently released version of Xibo.

You need to use IE8, Chrome or Firefox.

If you've moved your servers local library you need to update the location in the Management Menu under Settings otherwise it won't be able to find the files you uploaded already.

Alex suggested that IE9 is not supported in Xibo and that turned out to be the problem, works fine in Chrome and firefox

DOH!
I cannot believe it was just the browser, I could have sworn I was using Firefox to test it this morning . I had already moved the library location so different browser fixed it perfectly .

Many thanks for your patience and kindness. I am off to get brownie points from the head teacher!
