show xibo signange ONLY on part of the screen

Asked by writeme

Hi All,

I tried to find a solution for my issue, but unsuccessfully. It has to be so obvious or nobody needs that.

I'd like to show signage/ADV/ running text(RSS feed) weather info etc ONLY on part of the screen/display.

The thing is, that windows PC shows surveillance(video camera) system in the middle of the screen.
There are some parts of the screen unused.
I would like to use Xibo to fill them with some practical info like weather or company info on the left and right side.

The other thing that would be fine could be possibility of running text OVER the current screen with some RSS feed.

I'm not able to find out how to make background transparent or divide it into several parts where in the middle would be other native windows application running/visible.

Any suggestions please?
Thanks in advance
Kind regards
j.

Hi,

is there any way to get the camera into a webbrowser working?

The most cameras have its own "webserver" so you can view the output into a webpage.
If the cmaera supports it, you have only to make a region with the link or applet in it.

There is no feature for "splitting" Xibo into two pieces, what you can do is, on one side on the screen is your camera and on the other Xibo. Look at the Client settings for some X/Y features.

Hi,

thanks a lot for your answer...

Camera system is "hard" app - let's say professional/proprietary.. So web page is not usable unfortunately.

I can imagine we would use one part of the screen only.. I have even tried to tune position with client side XY settings. The result was always changed aspect ratio of the images/text..

Display resolution is 1920x1080. Lets say I would like to use Xibo only on the right third of the screen?
What should a I set in the server setting and what on client side? I'm bit lost,,,

Do I understand correctly, that background transparency is not possible?

Thank you very much!
J.

Regions are transparent, but you can't create a "hole" in the Xibo screen to let the other application through.

If you tune the client with width, height and x,y settings it will position it on the screen and only use the amount of screen you specify.

If your screen is 1920x1080, then design your server layouts using the 16:9 template (you can choose any template, it will be automatically resized and scaled - but it makes sense to pick the same as your screen).

A third of a 1920x1080 screen is 640x360.

Your best bet would be to get a decent IP camera which allows its image to be streamed without the proprietary software (there are lots available).

If you're going to use the client size/position options, then you'll need to add a custom resolution to Xibo and use that for your layouts if you want your layouts to fill the client window.

So use the options to size/position your client window. Figure out the size in pixels of your new window. So if it's 300 pixels wide by 1080 high then in Management -> Resolutions add a new resolution using those figures. Don't be suprised if the form edits those figures to make them fit your browser screen - they'll still be the correct aspect ratio.

You can then create a new layout, go to Background and choose your custom resolution. The designer window will change to show the new layout shape.

You can then edit your layout as normal.
