instructions to install on hosted webserver

Asked by Peter Mariani

I an interested in Xibo. The about page talks about a hosted solution but the instructions appear to focus on setting up a dedicated server on a network. Is is possible to set up xibo on a unix based web hosting serivce that hosts our website? If so where can i find instructions?

Thank you

Hi,

Yes, you can do this when the Webserver have the following server requirements:

PHP 5.2.9 or higher
MySQL library
GD library
JSON library
SOAP module
A MySQL database

When you not sure, just try it.

Next, go to:
http://wiki.xibo.org.uk/wiki/Install_Guide_Xibo_Server --> Install Xibo

All what you normally do into the webserver with a shell (or SSH...), you have to do this on your computer (untar...) and sent the files with ftp to your webserver.

When you are looking for a real Xibo Hoster, have a look at http://springsignage.com/

I too would like to install on my shared linux hosting account.
Ive already created a subdomain for this purpose: xibo.mydomain.com
Im not exactly clear on the instructions above.
Do I now untar on my local PC, then FTP the untared files to xibo.mydomain.com?
What next?
Thanks in advance

Yes you unpack locally, then FTP to your webserver, then go to http://xibo.mydomain.com and the installation will start.

Be aware though that many shared hosting providers don't provide the extensions we need to run.

Alex
Thank you very much for this clarity.
Ill give it a lash and see how it goes.
If not Ill get a dedicated host to experiment with.
Thanks for all your efforts
