Can Xibo run a 'persistent' flash application?

Asked by Jeremy Hall on 2012-04-04

Xibo looks almost-perfect for our application which is, of course, a foyer display.

One of the views we'd like to display (amongst other stuff) is a flash application which displays data from our solar inverters. The flash application itself has a number of 'slides'. It's called Flashview:

One of the slides that the above application shows is a graph of energy generaton - however, when starting the flashview application up, this graph displays no historical data, and only draws the graph from that moment onwards. In other words, the flash application must be running continuously, all day, in order to present a 'nice' graph.

Is that something that Xibo is likely to be able to do? I would imagine that each time Xibo switches to another slide, it kills the flash instance. Is there a workaround for this?

Many thanks,

Hi Jeremy

Yes Xibo will restart the flash instance each time. There's no way to work around that I'm afraid.

Hi Alex

Thanks for your reply

A solution that I had considered previously (prior to Xibo) was to have each of my 'screens' displayed on a different workspace (in gnome) and then use a simple script to cycle between workspaces every x seconds.

Do you know if I could run Xibo on one workspace in this fashion? Do you see any reason this might not work?

Hi Jeremy

It's not something I've tried. I've no idea if it would work.
