XAMP config problem

Asked by Rick Squires

Hi
I downloaded xamp-win32-1.1.installer.exe(the xibo site indicates possible nuSOAP problems with the latest version of XAMP)

I have run the installer and have been following the configuration instructions. Whne it comes to starting phpMyAdmin to configure MySql I get an error:

MySQL said:

Cannot connect: invalid settings.

phpMyAdmin tried to connect to the MySQL server, and the server rejected the connection. You should check the host, username and password in your configuration and make sure that they correspond to the information given by the administrator of the MySQL server.

I started getting this error recently, so ran the uninstaller and attempted to reinstall(as above)

Note that there are slight differences in ther way that the installer behaves from that given in the documentation. I did not check the install as service in the Installer, but did it in the Xamp CONTROL PANEL.

I must be doing something wrong - and although searching this forum indicates several possible edits to configuration files, surely that is not needed on the initial install?

Rick

Hi Rick - the latest version of Xibo (1.2.2) doesn't use nuSOAP any more - perhaps the best course of action would be to use the latest XAMP (or even WAMP) and go from there.

Thanks

Upgrading to the latest version of XAMP after tidying up the registry from the provious install didn't fix the rpoblem. However, I discovered that changing the link from the XAMPP control panel (http://localhost/phpmyadmin/) to use 127.0.0.1 rather than localhost got me into the admin login page, so that I was able to logon as root and carry on with what I needed to do.

I thought I was going to have to do this every time, but after a reboot, the link from the XAMPP CP worked fine.

I havwe no idea why this happened, but evrything is working fine now.
