Design layout - Feature request

Asked by Nate

I would like to request a feature enhancement for the layout screen so that it is divided into qudrents allowing for static content, changing content etc. (see link below for what I am trying to describe)

http://i926.photobucket.com/albums/ad110/dcatcha/xibo_layout_feature.png

I know from prior reading, and posts that the overall layout will play for the longest time of the ojbects on the screen. I would propse that this functionality instead be changed to play for the longest defined quanderant. Iif you look at the link above you will see that the layout portion is divided into 9 areas. The center sqaure would be changing data.... eg power point then to different layouts being displayed or maybe only allow for just different layouts. Then the orange and black sections would be data you always want present and would have long update times like a company logo, or an RSS feed... those areas would have no bearing on time of the layout running.

Once the layout is defined you right click and choose properties... select "STATIC" which would tell the application that this data is not chanings and excludes it from the runtime of the layout.

Or perhaps there is a way to do this already?

I hope this makes sense.

If there's only one item in a region then I think both clients kind of implement that already - they certainly do for images.

It might make sense for Tickers possibly.

In any case - feature requests need to go in to the Blueprints section of Launchpad please :)

I will close this and move it to the blue print section.

I have had issues with scheudling, and when I setup the region I was told & read that the layout will not update until it had played the longest region. So you are forced to have all of your regions to a faster refresh rate in order to get schedules picked up on time.

Example... 1 region is set to refresh ever 2 hours... but the layout you want it to change every 30 minutes... by allowing for regions marked as Static you would then exclude them from the running time for the layout.

Could your static content just have a lower duration? These would then play, and remain on screen (as there is nothing further to show in the region).

The whole layout would then change (or reload) when the content in the non static region had all been played.

The only case I can see where this would be a problem is "static" media that didn't remain on screen once played... e.g. power point, video, some flash content?

But your next layout wont play until the static information has played fully.

Make your static media be the only media item in the region and have a really short duration.
