Scrolling text loop without Timings?

Asked by Eamon Schoenherr

Hi, i've setup both Server side and Client side Xibo for displaying our daily notices on 2 widescreen TV's.

I have created a background with a text box that scrolls texts upwards (like credits).

The length of text on the TV's changes daily, i was wondering how i can just update the text without having to make sure it doesnt end early or display blank for too long. After i edit the text i have to adjust the duration and speed to get it right, which means watching the display screen while live for 2 or so minutes to see if its correct (repeat again if its not).

Is there something im missing? or would it be possible if its not implemented to just create a scrolling text box which just loops after it gets to the end (with a delay so the first and last sentence's isnt cut off the moment it appears)

Thanks

You are best of answering this question in Flash support forums around the web. To spare you some effort, I think you should find some swf sourcefiles for your purpose at www.flashkit.com

Actually, here is something you might find worthwhile looking at: http://www.flashkit.com/movies/Utilities/Other/Flash_RS-Tom_Pars-12289/index.php

So you mean turn my daily notices into flash and just update the flash content daily?

Thats fine, im just confused as to why it doesn't work proplerly for me as just scrolling text in a region on Xibo. Surely im not the only one using Xibo for notices or scrolling text?

It would make sense to add text to a region, set the speed and let it scroll untill it ends. When it ends, having nothing else in the timeline, it should just start the text scroll from the begining again.

But because of the Duration altering the scroll speed aswell it makes it difficult to end the daily notices in the right place without looping back on itself before it ends or makes the scroll speed really slow. i was hoping i was doing something wrong.

Thanks

Im sorry eamon, I posted the above replies in the wrong thread. But coincidentally, they might be of assistance to you. If you code your daily notices in to RSS, then Xibo is able to tell how "much" data is in the RSS to display for the time you gave it (at least, that is my understanding of the RSS module in Xibo). So, the RSS module picks up speed whenever there is more information to show. Secondly, if you had coded your region to be 30 seconds, and your content is allready done after 20, your RSS feed would just start all over from the beginning, which would not be that much of a problem. Thirdly, creating your daily notices into RSS has the advantage of cross publishing your information: an RSS feed is easily linked to a website, mobile app, etc. Don't know your exact project background, but imho, it's always nicer to have dynamic content than static.

Can you help with this problem?
