Is it possible to play PowerPoint presentation under Linux XIBO client using OpenOffice, LibreOffice or other PowerPoint reader-only tool? And what about PDF files?

Yes, you would have to. It's not possible to integrate Open Office in the
same way we do with PowerPoint.

This is explained in the client installation guide.

My basic client platform will be Linux so my questions. LibreOffice can export presentation to Macromedia Flash SWF file. Is it playable by XIBO player?

Remember! Linux is like wigwam. No Windows no Gates but Apache inside ;-)

Yes, it can. However you can't tell the exported swf to automatically
advance, so it's pretty useless.
