Shared layouts not editable

Asked by ChrisJ

I've created a selection of layouts as xibo_admin as part of getting to grips with how it all works and trained my first "end user" yesterday. However they can't edit the layouts I've created. I've made the layouts public and they can see them, they just don't see any buttons for design, edit, etc. I've looked through the manual wiki but can't find anything. Help! (please ;0)

You can only edit a layout if it either belongs to you, or you're an
admin of the group that the layout belongs to.

Otherwise if the layout/media is set to public you'll be able to see/use
them in new layouts/schedule them but not edit them.

Alex thanks for getting back so quickly.
I'm being really thick, I'm sure, but I can't see how to either set a user as the admin for a group or set the group for a layout. All the layouts I have show user names in the "group" column

If you want everyone to be able to edit anything, the easiest way is
when you create your new users, in "User Type" (or when you edit a user)
set "Super Admin".

If you set to "Group Admin", then all layouts belonging to users in the
same groups as you that are set to "Group" or "Public" will be editable.

So in your case, you probably want to create a new user called Chris and
one for your other user. Make yourself a Super Admin and your other user
a Group Admin.

Then put both accounts in a group together - either Users or one of your
own making.

OK so I've created a group called "LS Users" for our lower school site. I've created 2 users and made both group admins and made both members of this group. As I logged in as xibo_admin to create the layouts I've also made this user a member of the "LS Users" group. Neither the layouts created by <User1> or me as xibo_admin are editable by <User2> despite all being in the same group as each other and all being group admins or above. Do the layouts haqve to be created whilst the users were group admins or members of that group or does the "sharing" get created on the fly as the users are added to the groups.
I'm still not sure if its me being new to this or an issue on my server. I think the former...

Thanks

Chris

The permissions are assessed on the fly, so there shouldn't be an issue with moving users between groups after the layouts were created.

The fact that all users are in the LS Users group, and that all users are Group Admin or Super Admin user types you should have no problem editing/designing the layouts.

It will be necessary to logout/login a user that has had its user type changed.

I will set up a test locally to make sure this is working as expected...

Tested it out locally with 1.2.0 and it all seems to work ok... here are the exact steps I took

1. Login as admin - create a user group and assign it page/menu permissions
2. Create 2 users... U1 and U2 as group admins.
3. Assign both users to the user group created in step 1
4. Logout from admin
5. Login as U1
6. Create a private layout
7. Logout from U1
8. Login as U2
9. U2 can design/edit the layout from U1

It does appear to be working as expected.

Perhaps it is a case of login/logout as I mentioned earlier?

Can you help with this problem?
