Central Media repository

Asked by ChrisJ

Is it possible to have media stored on and retrieved from (a folder on) a central server rather than go through the upload process? We've got staff who are quite capable of filming students work and saving the video file to a folder but ask them to crop, transcode and scale it down to something less than 50MB so that it can be added to the library and they would think we were speaking a different language.

There may be another way round this, maybe serving the contents of the "media folder" via a streaming server that presents just a web page that could then be included in a time line as a web page.

No. There's no reason why you can't upload files up to 2gb in to the library though.

The reason being that Xibo tries very hard to keep running if there are network problems and that wouldn't be possible if the videos were remote.

You could embed them from a remote server using the embedded html media type but if your staff can't upload a file they certainly aren't going to manage that.
