powerpoint doesn t work

Asked by Jonibigoud

hello , i m back again to the forum...

I ve configured the client as advised in the manual (microsoftfix for office 2007 installed)
But when xibo tries to open the PPT, i get the IE message: "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" , "try to retype the address" (or something like that).
Is the client supposed to download the PPT from the server to its local library? im asking that because there is jpg file which is the background of a layout, downloaded from the library of the server ; but no PPT in the local library of the client.

i need to precise that the apache server is running on a different port because of a proxy in my network. But that seems to run well: having the proxy configured on IE with an exception for the Xibo Server.
Any idea??

The PowerPoint file you uploaded should be in the local library on the
client.

If it isn't, first try uploading the PowerPoint item to the server again
and check that it turns up in the server library correctly.

To be clear you need to edit the existing layout, edit the region with
your PowerPoint item in it and then edit the actual PowerPoint item and
from there upload the file again.

Uploading it again to the library won't change it on the layout.

Great!
i did and now it works.
There are 2 Ppt now in the library (on called 3.ppt).
Thks again.

1 more question and i leave you alone ;) :

the Library directory of the server is shared on the network; so some people will be able to modify the PPT, but which one? the original or the one called 3.ppt???

You must NOT modify files in the server library folder. All
modifications to a PowerPoint need to be uploaded via the server
interface.

Sharing the server library is a really bad idea.

my client always ask me what to do with the ppt file? open/save/cancel, choose open, it will download and open in the ppt which I used OpenOffice. the client's region shown as a bad web page, ppt will be open as a standalone program only.

How to make the ppt automatically open and shown in the region?

Firstly you need the full version of Microsoft Office installed.
OpenOffice is not compatible.

Then you need to follow the instructions in the wiki:

ons

I am having the same issue...
Windows xp, IE 8, xibo 1.2.2, Full microsoft office powerpoint 2007.
when i load xibo with a ppt file in a single region, it brings up a window to download the ppt file, with IE in the background saying it can't load the webpage like the above post...
The very most i can get xibo to do with the ppt is to open it in edit mode.
I have seen other discussions suggest saving ppt as a wmv file and just playing that. In that case then what's the point?(-:

Any help with this would be apreciated!

thanks!
Paul

You need to apply the appropriate registry patch for your version of office from the installation guide and setup your presentations in that way as well. It will never work if you dont follow those instructions.
