Xibo Clinet 1.2.0 crashes while uploading large video file

Asked by Pshp

When I create a layout and upload contents, xibo client screen remains blank even thought all the media files are download. I need to close it and open again.

But this is not the main problem. The main problem is when I upload another video file, it shows 'xibo client has encounter a problem and needs to close'. I am not using ppt file and have not enabled statistics as well.

First I uploaded a small video file and it worked but when I tried with big files it did not work. I have set the collection interval as 5 minutes but the client crashes after around 1 or 2 minutes.

Once the video files download they have to be checksummed to ensure they
were not corrupted.

I expect you've corrupted the clients cache of checksums by stopping it
while it was doing that.

Please delete cacheManager.xml and schedule.xml from your c:\Documents
and Settings\user\Application Data\Xibo folder and then start the client
back up.

It will sit for a while while it recalculates checksums and downloads
any files it needs before it begins playing content.

Also make sure that your server and client clocks are synchronised.
1.2.0 sends down start and finish times along with the schedule and if
the clocks are more than about 30 minutes out the server will never send
schedules to the client that it can play.

I removed those two files. Also the difference between server and client clock is 2 minutes. But still I have problem.

As I said before, when I upload small file, around 2-3 MB, it works but for the file size of around 18 MB, it does not work,

Can you try with a different file - perhaps there's something about that
particular 18MB file that causes a problem?

We test with the FullHD version of Big Buck Bunny which is 682MB so I
know that size isn't the issue.

I tried with two files- one of size 18 MB and another of size 71 MB. I can play both files with windows media player.

Can this be the issue with collection interval? I have set the collection interval to be 300 sec. So if the client cannot download that video file within that period, xlf gets updated giving the problem.

What would happen in that instance is say the XLF was already
downloaded, the new XLF file would run but the missing video would be
skipped over.

Now if that video was the only video on the layout you might have a
problem if the setting for the length of a layout with no content was
very low.

What setting do you have in the client settings for that? It should
default to 10 seconds.

I have set '0' as I want the video to run over it's entire length.

I don't mean the duration of the video. In the client options there is
an option for the duration of a layout that contains no valid media
items.

It should default to 10, but if it were set to a lower value it may
cause problems like the ones you're seeing.

What value do you have for that? It's on the Advanced tab in the client
options.

I'm out of ideas then.

You're welcome to upload the videos somewhere I can get them so I can
try them here.

I've asked Dan to look at this thread when he has time.

I just tried with windows server and client both installed on the same machine. I also tried in LAN with linux server.
Both worked fine.
The video files don't have problem for sure as they work in these cases.
But in the WAN environment, I am getting the problem.

Sorry for the delay - I was travelling. A few questions:

- When the Xibo client crashes can you get any extra information from the dialog box that appears?
- Is the client running on a domain account with a roaming profile?
- Is the library location stored on the local disk, or on the network?
- Can we hook a client up to your network for test? (if so can you email the details and an admin account on the xibo server to <email address hidden>)
- Are the WAN clients a different version of windows to your local test?
- Which version of windows is that? 32/64 bit?

It wont be the collection interval causing an issue - Xibo will only fire one request at a time and if the previous is still active (download taking longer) it will wait.

I suspect this may be the bug I've just linked.

Hi Dan,

Sorry for late respose. I was stucked somewhere.
Answers to your questions as as follows:

- No, I don't get any extra information when it crashes. It shows one debug button but when I click on it, the dialog box gets closed.
- If you are talking about dynamic IP, then yes client PC has dynamic IP.
- Library Location is stored in local disk on client machine.
- Sorry that is our production server and I have no authority to give it to you.
- I did not understand this part. I am using one client and one server on WAN. Server is linux and client runs on windows XP.
- I am using 32 bit windows XP and additionaly server is in Centos.

I am not using 1.2.0 anymore. I have shifted to 1.0.8 now. But I will be using to 1.2.0 again sometime later.

For the bug Alex has pointed out, yes I am using only one layout but the media files are not invalid because when I used windows server and windows client on the same machine, it worked. It also worked on LAN and works in version 1.0.8.

It's perfectly possible for it to be this bug.

I'm not suggesting that the files on your server are actually corrupt - I'm saying that when the client starts it may be considering that all the downloaded files are invalid as a result of that bug and therefore crashing.

OK. Thanks for the reply. I will be continuing with 1.0.8 for now.
