1.2 rc1 reordering timeline works only the first time.

Asked by David Coleman

When I logon and double click on a region in a layout and re-order an item on the screen I can only do it 1 time.
If will not let me drag after the first time. I am logging on as xibo_admin and trying it.
Seems like a bug, but am not sure, you may already know about it.

I can't reproduce that on my install.

Please clear all caches and try again. Have a look at the manual that describes re-ordering as it's not done as you may expect:
http://wiki.xibo.org.uk/wiki/Manual:Layouts:Design#Changing_the_Region_Timeline

Failing that, we'll need more detail about the exact setup:
 * Browser, version etc
 * OS
 * Contents of the timeline

It must be an issue with IE7 or something like that.
I tried firefox and did not have the issue any more.

I've done a little more testing with this. I can dupicate this on two different pcs with windows xp and ie7 with 1.0.7 client going against the 1.2 rc1 server. I do not have the problem with firefox.

From both pc's with 1.0.7 client against the 1.0.6 server with ie7 I do not have the problem.

I just though I would go ahead and document this in case others run into this issue.

When you open a region and try to move an object in the timeline but just move it a little bit, but do not completely move the item and get a sucessful re-order , then click on close, then re-open, I cannot move anything until I go back to "layouts" and open it again.

I know what to do now to get around it, but probably someone will run into this so the workaround is to go back into "layouts" and then "design" again. Also - don't click "close" until you are finished re-ordering, as if you drag one of the items a little and don't get a successful re-order it will not let you re-order any more until you re-open the layout.

I apologize - but my testing was not accurate.

It appears that if you open the timeline with ie7, no matter what you do, if you close and re-open the timeline you cannot move any objects no matter what you did before in any region in the layout.

So you can move stuff around only the very first time you open the timeline, but once you close it, then you cannot move any more items around (even in other regions), you have to re-open the layout.

Alex, if you have IE7 you should be able to reproduce this since it has nothing to do with the client. If in fact it is not something in my environment.

Just clarifying. This will be a problem for us as we have to support ie7 for our microsoft apps and don't officially support firefox at the desktop level.

I have absolutely no issues with the 1.0.7 client, 1.0.6 server with the timeline.

Hello.

I can add that timeline acts badly in IE. My long (400pcs) test timeline renders in 5 secs in FF and 30-40 secs in IE.
No bug probably as it's too long, but maybe you want to know.

Which version of IE?

IE8, both on xp32 and w7 64.

You can check timebar in 'Cala Biblioteka' layout.

400 items is alot. I expect it's just the performance of IE given that Firefox manages it so much faster.

At least it's documented for future info.

Can you confirm David's report on IE7 or 8? I don't have access to an IE7 any more as I upgraded mine to 8 to test your thing the other day!

Same situation on my IE7.
After rearanging order, close open, elements are not moveable.

there is also no notification window about reanagement completed during first try like in ff, but order seems to be changed.

There is a big chance to reproduce it in IE8 in compatibility mode as is using _almost_ same rendering engine like IE7, but there is a little problem, it's impossible to login when compat mode enabled.
Also http://blogs.msdn.com/b/ie/archive/2008/06/10/introducing-ie-emulateie7.aspx seems interesting.

I don't see why we need to fix logging in in compatibility mode. As far as I know everything works in IE8.

If it doesn't, we'd be better off fixing what doesn't work than relying on compatibility mode.

Of course you're right.
I've only suggested two possible ways to reproduce main problem of this thread in ie8 :)

Thanks. 2 people confirming it is good enough for me. It's Dan's code so hopefully he has a VM he can test in.
